我们当地叫它山胡椒,有“味之山妖”的美誉。它的根和果子都可以当佐料,木姜子味道比较独特,能给食物增添特殊的香气,但是接受不了的人也说它是种劝退北方人的南方调料,可与鱼腥草媲美!上山摘了一筐回来做木姜子炖鸭和几道小菜,顺便炸点木姜子油存着!

Spices of Four Seasons (I): Litsea
It’s also called wild pepper and has a nickname of «the strange and unique flavor». Both its root and fruits can be used as spices. Litsea has an unique flavor and can add a special fragrance to dishes. However, those who cannot stand it says that it’s the spice that keeps Northerners away, just like the cordate houttuynia! I picked a basket of litsea in the mountains and made stewed duck as well as several dishes. I also fried some litsea oil for later usage.
