Quick and Easy Gumpaste Rose Tutorial- Rosie’s Dessert Spot

In this video I demonstrate how to make gum paste roses. Normally to make large blooming roses, you need to dry out the bud for a day or two, then apply your first 2 layers of petals, let that dry for another day, add the next layer etc. I say FORGET about that.

This method that I use produces a beautiful, professional and mostly blooming rose without the ridiculous waiting time. It literally doesn’t take more than an hour or so to make the one rose, that’s including petal drying time.

The important thing is to allow your petals to dry. Although I don’t mean dry to the point where they are rock solid and no longer flexible. There is an optimum level of dry, where they hold their shape when standing (i.e they don’t wilt when they are upright) but they are not so dry that they are no longer flexible. You still want them to give a little so you can manipulate the petal away from the rose bud and make the flower look open. This takes me about 40 minutes worth of drying time, although depending on your climate, it could take longer or less time.
